For the teacher: the two strings are tuned in unison (both at Sa), so the child hears beats — the slow wobble that appears when two pitches are slightly apart. As the pitch closes in, the wobble slows and stops; that "zero-beat" moment is exactly how a tambura or a violin string is tuned by ear. The slider hides its numbers on purpose, so it is the ear that decides.
